My Coach Just Won The CrossFit Games

This is by far the coolest thing ever.

Ben Smith is now The Fittest Man on Earth, and it is a well deserved title. Lucky number 7!

I briefly watched Ben compete at The CrossFit Games last year and didn’t really understand what was going on. It was his 6th trip to the games. 2 times he has placed 3rd in the individual male competition. This year was his 7th trip to the games, making him the most experienced veteran in the individual male competition.

This year I was able to watch The Games with his CrossFit Krypton family and it was insane. Ben really put on a show. I’ve never been so excited watching someone on tv in my life, and I think it’s because I know how much Ben deserves this title.

Every single time that I was in the gym he was pushing himself and constantly moving. It was awesome to watch! It also really put things in perspective for me.

Like I said going into this whole CrossFit thing I was like alright let’s see what all the hype is about. Is it really all it’s cracked up to be? Are these people really “The Fittest”?

After watching Ben train it is without a doubt he is the fittest man that I know (sorry babe).

The workouts we were doing were already hard, but somehow he would do the workouts we were doing, but with heavier weights or more reps or some other twist to make it harder. He really tried to have The Dave Castro Mindset, which if you don’t know who that is, he’s insane and twisted and creates the events for The Games.

He would do numerous workouts a day. One time he came in before the gym closed to get in another workout after he had just gone to dinner with his family.

His dad walked in the gym and was like, “I thought he wasn’t going to do another workout today… We were just at Dairy Queen.” Now I don’t think he had just eaten DQ, but it just shows how motivated and dedicated Ben is to come in at the end of the day to get in another workout.

He doesn’t waste time. He’s always working hard. Not only that, but he is genuinely a nice, well rounded guy. Ben completely deserves the title. He has worked so hard for it and is so humble through it all.

CrossFit Krypton is run by an amazing family and I’m so happy for all of the Smith’s. They all are wonderful welcoming people. That is how this gym is. It’s a family that is run by a wonderful, loving, and supportive family.

This is why I like being part of the CrossFit community. I haven’t been able to go into the gym as much as I’ve wanted to because of my work schedule, but when I do go in to workout I feel welcome.

I’ve seen ignorant comments about Ben winning saying, “How can this competition say that he is ‘The Fittest Man On Earth’?” And all I have to say to that is those people are ignorant and are taking the title WAY too literally. Also, I feel sorry for all of the people bashing something they know nothing about, and bashing someone they don’t know.  I wish they could watch Ben train. It’s inspiring and motivating and I’m proud to say that I am a member of his gym.

For anyone else reading this who disagrees go to a gym and try it. Boxes usually have a free drop-in day where you can try out CrossFit, but don’t knock it before you try it. And you most certainly shouldn’t knock Ben or his family for his hard work and determination.

It’s not often that you see a man compete 13 hard, challenging, events that test you in every way possible in 4 days. That’s just insane. You also don’t see a man place 18th one day and then jump up to the top the next day.

Congratulations Ben! We are all so proud of you. Now go rest!
