Jump On That Journey!

Everyone has to start somewhere. Rome wasn’t built in a day. 

Your body is like Rome. If you want to start exercising to feel fit and comfortable in your own body, it might take a while. Don’t do it for anyone else but yourself. Also, remove the D word from your vocabulary (diet). Just eat healthy and exercise. I don’t like the D word because it’s usually only a short period of time type of thing. Instead of D-wording make a lifestyle change. Learn to eat healthy and exercise, but don’t be so strict and hard on yourself.

Same goes for exercising and learning how to lift. It may take a while for you to feel comfortable in your skin, but as long as you are doing it for yourself and not just Spring Break or just the summer then you’re on the right path. The thing I hate seeing most is people make a change for SB or summer, and then once they reach that time they stop continuing to make the changes. I know it’s hard, but it’s all worth it.

Today, I decided I wanted to really learn an overhead squat (OHS). I took a semester long class that focused on the fundamentals of an OHS, but I only ever did them unweighted. Luckily, I have a wonderful boyfriend who could help me make sure that I was doing them correctly. Even on Day 1, no one is perfect and I have some things that I could work on to have better form, but it’s a work in progress.

I do this blog for myself. It keeps me motivated to be healthy and fit, but I also do this blog for you all. I need to have some motivation to get myself in a gym. I need the motivation because I am easily distracted. If I get too distracted, well then I wouldn’t be able to make a post on here and then you wouldn’t have anything to read, and I wouldn’t be inspiring you or myself.

Now I know I said “don’t do this for anyone else,” and I’m not. I want to be healthy for myself, but also use my motivation and drive to inspire you all so that you can get some of my excess motivation and achieve your goals. I just want to make the world a more healthy place one post at a time.

IMG_0236 facelessfitnessIf my motivation isn’t enough, try to find someone who can help you learn new things and vice versa! It’s a great learning experience for both parties. Both people can learn new ways to coach while also learning a new skill. After I was taught OHS, I taught him the fundamentals of a handstand. Make it a bartering system.  I secretly taught him HS fundamentals so I can have HS competitions with him. 

Find the motivation to jump on that journey. Everyone has to start somewhere. I started with just the barbell today on OHS. Some may have to do a million air squats. Listen to your body and make sure you’re supervised and safe. As long as you’re movin’ you’re groovin’!

Complete 5 rounds:

5 OHS w/ bar (45lb)

15 shoulder touch handstands (touch both shoulders = 1)
